Abstract:
Copper nanoparticles were synthesized using
nanocellulose as a reductant and also a support. The
catalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction
(XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR),
thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission
electronic microscopy (TEM) and atomic absorption
spectrophotometry (AAS). Copper nanoparticles supported
on nanocellulose (CuNPs/NC) effectively catalyzed the
selective oxidation of cyclohexane using hydrogen
peroxide as oxidant under mild conditions. Besides, the
effects of catalyst concentration, temperature, reactant
molar ratio, reaction time on the reaction conversion
and product selectivity were also investigated. The
optimal conversion was obtained at room temperature with
total yield of 63% after 24hrs. No leaching of active
copper species into the reaction solution was found. The
catalyst could be reused several times with minimal loss
of catalyst activity.
