Abstract:
This paper proposes a novel algorithm for intelligent
control of wind – solar energy hybrid systems. There is
an urgent need to develop alternative energy sources due
to rapid depletion of non-renewable sources based on
fossil fuels. India, being a tropical country, both wind
and solar resources are available in abundance albeit
non-uniformly. Though the installation costs are high,
both wind and solar systems are environment as well as
eco-friendly and are examples of green and clean
systems. These hybrid systems are normally employed in
places where there is reasonable availability of solar
as well as wind energy. Further, the outputs produced
from these renewable energy sources are not uniform
during the course of day and also there are seasonal
variations. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to
synchronize the output vis-a-vis distribution and
storage. Such systems could also meet power requirements
of small and standalone units. An intelligent
neuro-fuzzy controller to optimize the usage of
generated power has been proposed. The system stores
electrical energy in a battery and also optimizes the
power delivered to the load. The development of such
wind – solar hybrid systems greatly mitigate the
requirements of the electricity grid and also needs to
be synchronized. The performance measures such as
voltage, current and power delivered will be evaluated.
