Abstract:
Digital content piracy is the process of making,
providing unauthorised copies of digital content / data
which is copyright to people generally through the
internet or CD, DVDs for a varied causes and motives,
digital content piracy leads to infringement of
intellectual property rights of the content owners.
awful to say end consumers find pirated content more
lucrative than purchasing it from legitimate sellers as
it offers a lot of advantages over the original content.
Customized / modified content is a major reason of
popularity of piracy as the user gets various options to
download easily and generally free in terms of content
subscription cost. Digital content piracy is the result
of a very large, strong and dynamic unmet demand of
consumer for digital content which if captured can be
the catapult for the next Internet revolution not just
in terms of Intellectual Property rights but content
based revenue. Digital content piracy is been posing a
threat to the entire digital content industry due to its
ease of being copied and supplied via the internet.
issues such as digital right management, and
intellectual property rights are on serious note as
industries make huge losses due to it, the software
piracy alone costs more than 30 Billion Dollars a year.
Various efforts are made and will continue to eradicate
digital content piracy which will be a long way to the
end. A successful control on digital content piracy as
its eradication in complete is very difficult can
significantly shoot up the digital content industry to
stars providing a lot of jobs, newer markets and
segments for development.
