Abstract:
The user interface based computer simulator was designed
previously using Java 2 Secondary Edition (J2SE) 5.0
version software with a potential to simulate combustion
parameters of various biomass types and generate
numerical results. It also included moisture content
feature that would influence the thermal output
significantly. But the model was programmed only to
simulate individually as per inputs from the user. In
this paper combinatorial optimization based numerical
method was implemented to enhance the computer model to
predict the optimum composition of Biomass sample. It
uses the principles of permutations and combinations
along with probability methods to sort the ratios of the
biomass sample. Numerical experiment was conducted by
considering a virtual sample of refuse derived fuel type
biomass which was simulated using the computer model.
The total combinations generated by the predictor were
around 10, 236 out of which 5, 610 were better
combinations when compared with the simulation result.
This software has an advantage of limiting the number of
biomass samples for physical experimentation hence
saving the resources. The user will be able to alter his
sample by considering optimum composition while
performing physical experiment for better thermal
output. However, 5% sampling rate was considered for
evaluating the combinations in order to reduce the
complexity and computational time. Artificial Neural
Networks and Genetic Algorithms based methods can be
applied to develop the model for better results.
