Abstract:
Geospatial technologies like Remote Sensing and
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) have
been widely used in land resources survey and
environmental monitoring. Assessment and monitoring of
natural resources like land, soil, water and vegetation
and socio-economic conditions and integrating them in a
spatial information platform like GIS will facilitate
the effective management of land resources. In the
present study, an attempt has been made to develop
spatial information system of Udupi district of coastal
Karnataka by an integrated approach using Remote
Sensing, GPS and other ancillary data on GIS. Indian
Remote Sensing satellites IRS-1C/IRS-1D images are
analysed using visual and digital interpretation
techniques. The data generated are the base line data
which are useful for the planning, development and
management of natural resources and infrastructure
development of this district
