Abstract:
Municipal Solid Waste contains the waste generated from
various commercial and residential areas of a developing
city. Solid waste contribute in a form of paper,
plastic, vegetable parts, cloths, bags, rubber, glass
etc., Its management includes proper collection,
segregation from source storage, transportation,
processing and disposal from the responsible authority
of that area. Today, managing the municipal solid waste
from CMC`s is a gigantic assignment. Growth in
population density with higher level of consumerism and
expansion of industrial and business activities resulted
in generation of solid waste at higher volume. These
accumulations of solid wastes cause problem to living
class and agitate healthiness and contentment of people
on a hefty range. Municipal solid waste management
expertise has expressed their opinion that the proper
separation of solid wastes at the collection stage is
essential for the successful implementation of solid
waste management practices in any region. Effective
handling of solid waste is possible, if proper
segregation takes place at the collection stage itself.
For this, bio-degradable and non-bio degradable solid
waste should be collected separately. The mixing of
bio-degradable and non-bio degradable solid waste
creates impediment in their proper management.
City Municipal Corporations in urban Parts of our
country need to play a vital and socially responsible
role to enhance the living quality of people. The
present paper is based on the study of Waste Management
practice taken by City Municipal Corporation UDUPI. The
study highlights on the modern force taken by Udupi City
Municipal Corporation towards the Successful solid waste
management crux on the collection practices. The study
also provides some suggestion to improve the quality of
waste management and implementation of scientific
process of wastes which will help in the production of
manure and gas. Operation of Modern technology by CMC`s
will also make livelier the urban quality and better
service to general public.
