Abstract:
Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to collect personal,
financial and sensitive information from users by
sending emails which directs them to fake websites –
designed to look like well- known, legitimate and
trusted businesses and financial organizations.
According to a report published by Anti-Phishing Working
Group (APWG) [1], there is a huge increase in phishing
attacks with financial sector proved as the most heavily
targeted sector for hackers. The most common way of
initiating this attack is through sending emails with
links to spoofed websites that collect information for
the purpose of stealing account information, logon
credentials, and identity information in general. In
this paper, we will be presenting a novel approach for
detecting phishing, which is based on URL of the website
and X.509 certificate fetched corresponding to that URL.
