Title:
Free Radical Scavenging Activity and Total Polyphenolic
Content of Selected Traditional Plants of Solanaceae
Family

Abstract:
Traditional plants used as alternative medicines since
ancient time period to cure chronic diseases. Free
radical scavenging activity and total poly phenolic
contents of five selected leaves extract of solanaceae
family, grown in Chitrakoot region, were investigated.
The free radical scavenging capacity was estimated by
DPPH (2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) method.
The total phenolics were measured using a
Folin–Ciocalteu assay. Datura stramonium was observed to
be potent free radical scavenger because it showed
highest percentage DPPH scavenging activity and also
possess highest polyphenolic content.
Keywords: Free radical
scavenging, DPPH, Total polyphenolic content and
Chitrakoot.
