Abstract:
The expansion of architectural ideas has created a diverse aesthetic reality throughout the country of Bangladesh. Number of buildings with irregular floor plan is increasing to meet the aesthetic demands of people. Effect of lateral loads due earthquake and wind are severe in case of these irregular shaped buildings. To reduce its severity many approaches have been adopted. Aim of this study is to explore the effect of seismic and wind load on building shapes using equivalent static method. Four building shapes of same floor area have been considered in present study and comparison between different shaped of buildings against the effect of lateral loads due to wind and earthquake has been presented. Software based analysis was performed to compare the effects of lateral loads on different building shapes. The Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC), 2010 has been considered in the analysis. The results show that the behaviour of building during earthquake and wind depends critically on its overall shape and geometry.
