Hoffman brick kiln

Abstract: Rice husk is becoming a
popular fuel use for Hoffman brick kiln in Vietnam. The
combustion of rice husk in a Hoffman kiln chamber was
not well-known in literature review. This paper showed
the study of combustion taken place in Hoffman kiln
chamber in both empirical and modelling method. The
experimental results showed that the CO concentration
was from 14mg/m3 to over 3100mg/m3, the temperature in
the chamber was varying from 795oC to 1050oC during the
kilning time. Oxygen content was from 5% to 20%. In the
modelling method, the computation was conducted using
Fluent version 14.0. In calculation, the unsteady model,
2D space planar, pressure based type, and absolute
velocity were used. The species transport and volume
reaction were defined to model the gas phase. The
multiphase model was employed to solve the problem using
two phase modelling. The k- sub-model combined with
near-wall treatment for the standard wall functions were
employed for turbulence. The computational results
fitted to the experimental results. Temperature in
calculation was from 400oC to 900oC. The highest CO
content in Fluent modelling was about 2200mg/m3. This
paper contributed the suitable mathematical model for
the combustion of rice husk in the Hoffman brick kiln.
